Remove chicken from packaging and extract any giblets from the cavity. Pat the exterior dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
02 -
Evenly coat the entire chicken, including the interior cavity, with 1 to 2 packets of BBQ chicken dry rub, rubbing it in thoroughly.
03 -
Place sliced onions in the bottom of a 6-quart oval slow cooker, creating a bed for the chicken.
04 -
Place the seasoned chicken breast-side down atop the sliced onions. No additional liquid is necessary.
05 -
Cover and cook on low for approximately 8 hours, ensuring the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
06 -
Remove the lid and brush half of the BBQ sauce bottle over the entire chicken, spreading evenly.
07 -
Replace the lid and continue cooking on low for an additional 15 minutes to allow the sauce to set.
08 -
Carefully remove the chicken from the slow cooker. Serve with the remaining BBQ sauce on the side.
