01 -
Preheat oven according to Texas toast package instructions (usually 425°F). Arrange 8 slices of garlic Texas toast on a baking sheet and bake for about 8 minutes or until golden and crisp. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F when done.
02 -
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and diced onion, breaking up the meat. Cook until beef is browned with no pink remaining and onions are softened. Drain excess grease and return to skillet.
03 -
Incorporate sliced mushrooms into the skillet if using. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until mushrooms are tender.
04 -
Stir in steak seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Sprinkle the brown gravy mix over the mixture and combine well. Let simmer for approximately 5 minutes until sauce thickens slightly. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
05 -
Remove baked Texas toast from oven. Use the back of a spoon to gently press down the center of each slice, forming a shallow well.
06 -
Spoon the beef mixture evenly into the wells on each toast slice. Top evenly with shredded cheese blend. Return to oven on the middle rack and bake at 375°F for 5 to 7 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
07 -
Remove from oven, garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve immediately.
